Stanthorpe and Ballandean sit in the highest part of Queensland close to the New South Wales border in whats known as the Granite belt. Originally settled for tin mining the wine came later thanks to Italian settlers who had a fair idea about growing grapes and what to do with them. Yes, this is wine country. Its also good food country with excellent produce and restaurants.
