We visited the chateau on a stupidly hot day and bugged out before we passed out. Nonetheless we got to see enough of how things were done back in the day. The chateau is all about status and you can read the history of this place here.

A familial seat since the 1100’s, chateau went up about 1640-ish, saw a few changes over the years as bits burnt down or fell down. The moats got filled in at some point and then dug out again. It turned into a bit of a fixer upper in the 1980’s, got rescued and is now a national treasure.

Given the amount of money it takes to build and run a place like this I can see why the hoi polloi got cranky and started revolting back in the day.
