The cooler weather has arrived and with it the riding season has commenced. We have two seasons here, hot and really hot, and really hot is no good for longer rides. Today’s ride is a big loop starting at the Gateway bikeway, connecting to the Kedron Brook bikeway, Enoggera Creek bikeway with a side trip to the Ithaca Creek bikeway when I got lost, back on the Enoggera Creek bikeway to the Enoggera Creek reservoir at the Gap.

The creeks and paths are magnificent and the creeks have water in them following the recent rain. It was a rather splendid and scenic ride for the most part.

The return trip went around to the other side of the reservoir and onto South Boundary Road to Center Road, Mt Nebo Road, Bellbird Grove, over the range at the IBG center break and then downhill all the way home.

This was a total distance of somewhere around 90km, but why epic? This was done on the bike with no name which made light work of paths, trails, firebreaks, steep descents, long loose climbs, basically everything was zero drama. It is an amazingly accomplished machine in all conditions encountered on this day.

It also ran out of battery at the 80km mark which was astonishing given the elevation covered and with zero care for conserving the battery. In places there were climbs up to 20%, maybe more – all done with ease. I rode the last bit without assistance, and I don’t really know how far that was not that it really matters. The bike is just fine on the flat without assistance.

Loose and steep? No problem.

This bodes well for future journeys into the hills and sets an expectation of what is possible for future trips into the wilderness. 80km and 1100m is a pretty good effort and given this is the first time a ride like this has been completed with zero drama on all sorts of terrain, I’m going to call it epic.
